West Africa’s production zone stretches across nine hydrocarbon basins, from the Niger Delta in the North to the Walvis Ridge of the Namibian border in the South. Comprising 76% of the entire Africa region’s offshore demand over the 2016-2020 timeframe, West Africa remains one of the key areas driving global capital expenditure and in particular by Angola, which is forecast to account for a 48% share of the sub region’s expenditure demand over the period. Infield Systems expects the trend towards ever deeper field development to continue, with ultra-deepwater prospects (>1,499m) expected to comprise 31% of the area’s offshore Capex demand over the 2016-2020 timeframe compared to just 16% over the previous five years.
