Gulf of Mexico Oil and Gas Map to 2021 was published in 2016 and saw its major release at OTC (Offshore Technology Conference), Houston. The Gulf of Mexico map features a complete regional overview, showing both the current operational status of the offshore Gulf of Mexico region, including operational oil and gas fields, platforms and pipelines as well as the abandoned oil and gas licence areas. The Gulf of Mexico Oil and Gas Infrastructure and Integrity map also highlights how all of the new discoveries will be tied into the existing, aging infrastructure. The offshore Gulf of Mexico oil and gas map also provides a market overview with graphics highlighting Gulf of Mexico Capex spend by operator, Capex by major license block and by market segment (Subsea, platforms, pipelines, control lines and SPMs). Overall, Infield expects the Gulf of Mexico to form 12% of global offshore capital expenditure over the 2017-2021 timeframe, with 85% of the region’s investment expected to be destined for developments in water depths greater than 1,000 metres. As such, the subsea market dominates capital expenditure demand, and is forecast to account for 47% of operator investment over the 2017-2021 timeframe; which vastly exceeds the global subsea expenditure average of 24% over the same period.

Infield Systems expects a total of 35 operators to invest in the region between 2017 and 2021. Shell leads the way, holding a 23% share of the forecast Capex. Shell’s investments are driven by a series of high-profile, ultra-deepwater developments including the 2,220 metre depth Appomattox prospect, which is expected to be Shell’s most capital intensive development over the forthcoming period. The GoM is predominantely governed by large supermajors however, smaller independent operators are making meaningful contributions. In 2015, Anadarko’s Lucuis development, LLOG’s Delta House project and Noble’s Big Bend and Dantzler field all came onstream, adding to the country’s annual production rate.
